This website sets no cookies. It does not use analytics, advertising, or tracking technologies. The only information stored on your device is a display preference that you choose yourself.
1. What cookies and similar technologies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store and to send back on later visits. Browsers also offer other kinds of storage, such as local storage, that websites can use to keep information on your device. European law, in particular Article 5(3) of Directive 2002/58/EC, applies the same rule to all of these technologies: storing or reading information on a visitor's device requires either the visitor's consent or a strict necessity linked to something the visitor has explicitly asked for. The cookie guidance of the Turkish Personal Data Protection Authority addresses cookies specifically, and we apply its standard to browser storage as well.
2. Cookies set by this site
None. Metadiscover sets no first-party cookies, and because no resource on any page is loaded from another organisation's server, no third-party cookies can be set either. This is true of every page type, including article pages and the page shown when an address is not found. We check this each time the site is updated.
3. Browser storage used by this site
The site uses one item of browser local storage, described in the table below.

This value is never transmitted to us or to anyone else. It is read only by your own browser, on your own device, to apply your choice. Because it is stored solely at your explicit request and is strictly necessary to provide the display mode you selected, it falls within the exemption in Article 5(3) of Directive 2002/58/EC for storage that is strictly necessary for a service explicitly requested by the user, and it corresponds to the user-interface personalisation category, such as language or display preferences, that the Turkish Personal Data Protection Authority's cookie guidance treats as not requiring explicit consent; that guidance addresses cookies rather than browser storage, and we apply the same standard here. For the same reason, no consent banner is shown: there is nothing on this site that requires consent.
4. How to remove it
Switch back to light mode using the control in the site header, which deletes the stored value, or clear site data for metadiscover.org in your browser's settings. The site works identically either way; it simply opens in light mode.
5. Analytics, advertising, and tracking
We do not use analytics services, advertising networks, conversion tracking, tracking pixels, browser fingerprinting, or session recording, and we do not embed content from social networks or video platforms. The only information we hold about visits is the server log described in section 5 of our Privacy Policy, which does not involve storing anything on your device.
6. Sponsor placements
Each page carries one clearly labelled sponsor placement. When a sponsor is present, the placement is a static image or text supplied by the sponsor and placed by us on our own server; it contains no sponsor code, sets no cookies, and does not track you. When no sponsor is present, the placement shows an invitation to contact us. If we ever needed to use technology that stores or reads information on your device for a sponsor, we would update this policy and our Privacy Policy and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent before doing so.
7. Note on Turkish law
Article 51 of the Electronic Communications Law No. 5809 applies to electronic communications operators. For this website, the applicable rules are those of the Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 and the cookie guidance of the Personal Data Protection Authority. The stored display preference is not personal data processed by us, and this page is provided as information in accordance with Article 10 of that Law.
8. Note for readers in Japan
No information stored on your device is sent by this site to any third party. The external transmission rules introduced by the 2022 amendment to Japan's Telecommunications Business Act, which apply when a website causes a browser to send user information to another organisation, are therefore not triggered. If this ever changed, the required notice describing what information would be sent, to whom, and for what purpose would be published on this page before any change took effect.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our practices or the law change. Each version carries the effective date shown at the top of the page.
